Hemantika Festival 2018: 11 to 18 November

SBDC's much-anticipated annual Kathak Festival, Hemantika, returns bigger and better for 2018.

 

The Kathak legend Pandit Birju Maharaj will once again be gracing the Festival with his outstanding performances and teaching. In addition, SBDC will be presenting a classical Indian reinterpretation of Tchaikovsky's magnum opus Swan Lake.

This year, the Festival includes:

• Hemantika launch event: Kathak performance by Pandit Birju Maharaj: Sunday 11 November
   

• 'Baithak': A musical evening with Pandit Birju Maharaj: Friday 16 November
   

• Workshops for various levels: Monday 12-Thursday 16 November
   

• Masterclasses for advanced Kathak practitioners: Monday 12 - Saturday 17 November
   

• SBDC student showcase: Sunday 18 November afternoon
   

• Hemantika finale: Legends reinterpreted: A performance by Saswati Sen with a special appearance by Pandit Birju Maharaj; Premier of SBDC's Swan Lake using Kathak vocabulary  - Sunday 18 November evening
